visitpact.comTrotting along to meet some girls for a quick lunch, I took a
while to find this place; it’s part of brand concept store, Pact,
and opposite Fred Lives Here. This casual dining spot has
a $20 set lunch, offering a salad,
sushiro
(or bowl), choice
of drink and
basil panna cotta
or
lemon tart
. I had the
pan-seared donburi salmon
, with a mix of salad including
wasabi sprouts, avocado and shimeji mushrooms. It’s in a
cool place, it’s convenient, and the food is great. What more
could you want for $20?

grub.com.sgCasual bistro Grub ticks all the boxes when it comes to simple,
affordable, hearty and delicious food with a pretty view; it’s
a cosy café in Bishan Park offering quality dining that won’t
break the bank. Another bonus? The food is made with natural
ingredients – no artificial preservatives, chemical additives or
MSG here. My favourite dish, the
pork steak burger
($13),
is a juicy combination of
sous vide
glazed pork and grilled
pineapple, which I normally wash down with
homemade iced
lemon tea
($3). If you’re with a group of friends, share the
mentaiko fries
($9), a flavourful alternative to truffle
fries. If you’ve got some spare cash left, end your
meal on a sweet note with the ever-popular
churros
($9), which come with two sauces: dark chocolate
and tangy crème anglaise.

bakerandcook.bizHaving Baker & Cook just a five-minute walk from where I
live in Bukit Timah is a good and bad thing. It’s good when
I’m opting for a healthy lunch of
smoked salmon tartine
($14) with a single-serve side order of the
raw energy
salad
($5.50); the tartine is a French open sandwich,
served with cream cheese and dill, while the raw energy
comes from carrot, beetroot, pumpkin seeds and raisins.
Unfortunately for customers and for the business, the
bakery’s alfresco seating was canned some time ago due
to powers beyond their control, but there is limited indoor
seating, and, of course, you can take food away.

facebook.com/49SeatsFor a late night supper spot try 49 Seats, a casual fusion
restaurant. If you love spicy food like I do, get their
signature tom yum
seafood pasta
($14.90) – tangy,
creamy and spicy all at once. And if the tom yum sauce
is too spicy for you, order a refreshing glass of
ginger ale
($3) to go with it. For those who can’t take spice, other
great dishes to choose from include the popular
creamy
smoked duck
($14.90), the chicken chop ($13.90) and
fish and chips ($14.90). And if you’re feeling extra
hungry, upgrade your main dish to a bang-for-
your-buck set meal by adding a soup and a
drink ($4.90).
