facebook.com/phostopThis cheery, modern Vietnamese restaurant
serves piping hot bowls of
sliced beef pho
for just $8.50 – a steal for a spot with a hipster-
friendly ambience. Alone, the broth is sweet and
on the lighter side, but it deepens when you
toss in the accompanying sides of herbs and
fiery sliced chilli. They also make a wonderfully
fragrant
grilled pork chop with rice and
a sunny-side-up egg
($9.40). I can never
resist ordering their fries ($6): they come in a
ginormous bowl that could feed three, and are
coated in an addictive secret seasoning. But if it’s
a healthy starter you’re after, order the
summer
fresh rolls with prawns and chicken
($6).

We love the fact that Singapore is overflowing
with a delightful diversity of cuisines and creative
food concepts, but, with ingredients being
imported from across the globe, dining out can
do some real damage to the wallet. So, where can
you go for a super-affordable meal – apart from
hawkers,
kopitiams
and food courts? We set a
limit of $20 and asked members of our team to
share their personal favourites for casual meals
that won’t break the bank.
