Brunch This Month:

OSTERIA MOZZA

REVOLVING DOORS

The owners of

Balanced Living

are relocating to the

US and are currently looking for parties interested

in purchasing the restaurant and lifestyle studio.

Japanese powerhouse

Shinji by Kanesaka

has

moved from OUE Tower to The St. Regis Singapore.

The original location in Raffles Hotel is staying put.

The Jewel Box

at Mount Faber is now called

Faber

Peak Singapore

. Second outlets for both

Chop Suey

Café

and

PS.Café Petit

are opening this month at

Robertson Quay’s Martin No. 38.

Giant buffets aren’t the only option for lazy Sundays.

The á la carte brunch at Osteria Mozza is a stylish

and intimate affair in a setting of dark-wood panelling

and crisp white tablecloths. General manager Owen

Edson sets the dress standard with a swish cravat, but

diners can take a more casual approach to match the

uncomplicated food. Opt for the excellent $50 free-flow

deal on Italian Nino Franco Prosecco, after sampling

a couple of barman Lucas’s creations: Singapore

Sling 1913 ($22) and Ramos Gin Fizz ($18) are heady

kick-starters. Tomatoes and soft cheeses direct from

France shine in standout salads, which include a

tasty mozzarella, lettuce, cucumber and pomegranate

combination ($23). Signature brunch dishes, sea-

trout “cakes Benedict” with poached eggs ($48) and

Wagyu tagliata with fried egg and salsa verde ($48) are

highlights too; you’ll also find pasta, risotto and other

solid Italian favourites. Don’t miss the vanilla panna cotta

with mixed berry compote ($17) to finish.

Marina Bay

Sands, B1 Galleria Level #42-46. Call 6688 8522.

BEER BARGAINS

Dempsey Hill’s newest kid on the block,

Tree Lizard

is an

unpretentious, pub-like eatery perfect for watching the sunset

over a tipple or two. Daily happy-hour offers beer pitchers

for $20 and beers, house pours and cocktails for $5 (3pm

to 7pm). The no-frills, comfort-food-inspired menu includes

prosciutto-wrapped asparagus ($14.90), fish and chips

($18.90) and hearty tenderloin with green peppercorn sauce

($29.90), as well as all-day breakfast options like a chorizo

sandwich with smashed chickpeas ($18.90). Dempsey Road

Block 25, #B1-01.

Call 6834 3969.

X MARKS

THE SPOT

In a city of endless high-rises, we can’t

believe someone here didn’t come up with

this idea first. But leave it to the Aussies

to create

Jaffleschutes

, a Melbourne

company that attaches grilled-cheese

sandwiches to tiny parachutes and delivers

them to hungry buyers five storeys below.

Customers order their jaffle — Australian-

style toasted sandwich, pay via Paypal and

wait at a designated time on an “X” on the

street. Originally designed to help flatmates

drop keys to locked-out roomies below, the

idea is scheduled to launch in NYC next.

To watch a delivery in action, go to

www.jafflechutes.com.
