Large Pieces
If you’re lucky enough to have a large space that dwarfs
small furniture,
Nirvana Gallery
has some perfect pieces
that are not only big but would fit nicely into a more rustic
environment, such as an original colonial house.
“Most of our furniture is from Burma, because we
have a factory there. Our artwork is from Indonesia and
Mexico,” says store manager Thomas Tan, who uses large
teak benches to display the work.
Contrasting with the vibrancy of the colours in the
paintings, the dark-wood benches are great for holding
colourful accessories. It’s important, he feels, to have a
nice piece of furniture on which to display a piece and
make it the centre of attraction.
Nirvana has an extensive collection of solid rosewood,
teak and
thinwin
furniture, including tables and benches
made from huge chunks of bark and trunk. They’re
an unusual and stunning way to showcase something
special, and they even work as display pieces on their
own; the furniture is about as rustic as you’ll find.
“Wood makes us feel closer to nature,” says Thomas.
“An unfinished-looking concrete floor complements our
wooden furniture well. If we put carpet down, it wouldn’t
really work.”
