LIFE&FAMILY
1. In Singapore’s heat and humidity,
w e a r i n g t h a t e y e - c a t c h i n g
Chewbacca costume might not
be such a good idea. Stick to a
lightweight costume: no fur, full
masks, plastic or leather.
2. Pumpkins are easy enough to find in
wet markets, Cold Storage, FairPrice
and most other grocery shops. Don’t
carve out your pumpkin too early as
the heat will wilt it in just a couple of
days, and the smell isn’t too pleasant
either.
3. Looking for different decorations to
style the Halloween house, aside
from fake cobwebs, banners and
skeletons? Try putting plastic spiders
over doorknobs and in treat buckets,
or get some grey card and make
tombstones to place in the front
garden.
4. A scarecrow is easily made from
old clothes stuffed with paper and
propped on a broom handle; finish
the look with a spooky mask.
5. L i t c a nd l e s i ndoo r s c re a t e
atmosphere. Buy in bulk at IKEA, or
for specifically themed Halloween
candles try Yankee Candle in Great
World City.

TRICK OR TREAT?
Halloween has evolved into a
community-based event, but some
people don’t acknowledge or
celebrate it at all, due to religious
beliefs or cultural indifference. So,
it’s best to make sure your trick-or-
treaters don’t go knocking on their
doors. If there are no decorations
to be seen and no pumpkins in the
window, it’s safe to assume that
those indoors won’t be giving out
too much candy.
