A Look at Leonardo
An exciting touch of history hits Singapore with the arrival of
Da Vinci: Shaping
the Future
, an exhibition featuring a collection of original works from one of the
most celebrated geniuses of all time, Leonardo da Vinci. Making their Southeast
Asian debut, these authentic masterpieces – direct from Milan’s Biblioteca
Abrosiana, one of the world’s greatest Renaissance museums – include six
original paintings from the School of Leonardo, as well as 26 original pages of
the
Codex Atlanticus
, a notebook containing some of the artist’s most important
drawings and writings. Visitors can also explore his life, work and legacy through
various films and interactive sections throughout the exhibition. See it from 15
November to May 2015 at ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, 6 Bayfront
Avenue.

RE-interpretation
Young Singaporean artist, Andre Tan, has been making a
name for himself in the art world with cheeky works that
explore both traditional and current social codes. In his
new exhibition,
RE by Andre Tan,
he playfully reworks
conventional and popular imagery to address the ironies and
social ills in today’s society – think Leonard Da Vinci’s
David
with a mobile phone, for instance. Organised chronologically
– from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance to Modern Art –
each image is familiar yet different, forcing viewers to rethink
the meanings behind them and their cultural references; the
prefix “RE”, of course, signifies this act of “going back” for
another look. See it from 13 November to 13 December at
Galerie Belvedere Singapore, 140 Hill Street, #01-10/11/12
Old Hill Street Police Station.

Visual Trifecta
Presenting three co-curated exhibitions within one
space,
Still Moving: A Triple Bill on the Image
examines the nature of the image through various
modes of photography and new media. In Afterimage:
Contemporary Photography from Southeast Asia, artists
use non-traditional photographic techniques to express
concerns about the political and social landscapes of the
region. Time Present: Photography from the Deutsche
Bank Collection focuses on Southeast Asian photography
practices throughout history, with works of renowned
international artists on display. The third portion of the
exhibition features experimental new media works from
the Yokohama Museum of Art in Japan. If you’re up for it,
round off the experience with artist talks, critic and curator
panels, a mobile darkroom and various educational and
public outreach programmes. See it until 8 February 2015
at SAM at 8Q, 8 Queen Street.
