Audi A3, the compact bestseller, has been named the
2014 World Car of the Year. The brand with the four
rings beat 23 other cars to win the prestigious title as
voted by an international jury panel of 69 automotive
journalists from 22 countries.

HISTORY
Singapore’s maritime history
has received a boost with a new
maritime corner and information
boards at Fort Canning. In
addition, the lighthouse that
shone from the top of Fort
Canning Park between 1903 and
1958 is now shining again, thanks
to the installation of solar-powered
lighting. Singapore Maritime Trails
are free guided tours which focus
on Singapore’s maritime history.
They run from 9am to 12pm, every first Saturday of the
month, until this coming December. Call 6325 5707 or

SENTOSA
MAKEOVER
Luxury resort destination The Sentosa has announced
a multi-million dollar makeover and renaming as the
Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa. The hotel will
remain open during the complete renovation, including
during the
transformation
of Spa Botanica
into So Spa,
which will retain
its outdoor
spa pavilions
and garden.
Completion date
is 2015, adding
to the 40 Sofitel properties in the region.

SELETAR MEMORIES
“Sacred to the memory of Jane, the beloved wife of JC Buyers,
shipbuilder who died on the 14th June 1867, aged 42. Also their sons
John and James who died in infancy.” So reads the gravestone of
Jane Buyers, which is to be preserved after Seletar residents lobbied
to protect its historical value. The gravestone was under threat from
developments planned along the Lower Seletar Reservoir Park. The
grave is one of the oldest in Singapore.
