WHAT’S NEW
DELI DREAMLAND
The group behind popular brunch spot Wild Honey has
opened a New York-style delicatessen called
Sacha and Sons,
offering classics like smoked pastrami (Sacha’s specialty), roast
beef, corned beef and smoked fish sandwiches, plus scrambled
egg options and heaps of Jewish specialties including bagels,
chopped liver,
kugel
(noodle casserole),
matzo
ball soup,
latkes
(fried potato pancakes),
knishes
(meat-filled puff pastries)
and
blintzes
(crepe-like treats). Go for the fantastic
chicken
schnitzel sandwich
or the
grilled Reuben
(pastrami or
corned beef with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian
dressing), which have already become favourites. And while it
costs more than it would in the Big Apple (a Reuben is $18 to
$35 depending on the size; scrambled eggs and a bagel is $16
to $18), it’s delicious, and as close as you’ll get to Jewish-style
deli food in Singapore. 333A Orchard Road, #03-02 Mandarin
Gallery.

Meals Made Easy
Home-cooked meals can be hard work,
especially if your schedule is tight or
you’re short on inspiration or know-how.
Online grocery services help save time
and energy, making things a little more
manageable, but let’s be honest – it’s
difficult to constantly come up with new
recipes and then go on an island-wide
hunt for all the components.
Now there’s a new way for time-
crunched folks to eat at home. A clever
new service,
The Hungry Chef
, delivers
simple, step-by-step recipes to your
doorstep along with the pre-measured
ingredients you need to cook them.
Choose from a wide range of recipes
– mains, sides, snacks and desserts –
like Moroccan prawns with couscous,
rosemary chicken, pork-stuffed chillies
and classic Waldorf salad; new ones are
introduced each week to keep things
interesting. Order on an as-needed basis
or opt for regular delivery service; The
Hungry Chef can even plan daily menus
based on your preferences and deliver a
week’s worth of recipes and ingredients
in advance.

NEW (CAFFEINE)
KID ON THE BLOCK
The people over at
The New Black
are already making a
splash on the local coffee scene with a new, no-nonsense
barista bar that takes the art of coffee very, very seriously.
Featuring a selection of artisan coffees from some of the most
talented roasters across the world – from Sydney and Chicago
to London and Oslo, and Singapore too – this new java joint
aims to give consumers a whole new appreciation of coffee.
It’s a revolutionary new concept, at least for the Little Red Dot
– and one that lets each category of coffee shine. 1 Upper
Circular Road.
