BIG SCREEN

SMALL SCREEN

Here’s our pick of this month’s happenings

on the big screen and the small screen

Big Eyes

This Tim Burton-directed bio-

drama follows painter Margaret

Keane (played by Academy

Award nominee, Amy Adams)

through her phenomenal

success in the 1950s, and the

subsequent legal difficulties she

had with her husband (played

by Academy Award winner,

Christoph Waltz), who claimed

credit for her works in the 1960s.

Opens 29 January at Golden

Village cinemas.

The Voices

This bizarre horror-comedy hybrid

flick follows Jerry (Ryan Reynolds),

a disturbed factory worker in a small

industrial town, who accidentally kills

his date (Gemma Arterton,

Quantum

of Solace

) and turns to his pet dog

and cat for advice on what to do – and

yes, they talk back. Though it sounds

over-the-top wacky, the film, which also

stars Academy Award nominees Anna

Kendrick and Jacki Weaver, received

much attention at last year’s Sundance

Film Festival. Opens 5 February at

Cathay Cineplexes.

is here, and you’ll get to experience

it in real time on 23 February. That’s

right, HBO (StarHub Channel 601)

is broadcasting live from both

the red carpet and the awards

ceremony itself, which means you

pressroom interviews.

And if you’ve missed the awards morning, not to

HD, HBO Signature, HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Red Carpet Footage and Fashion

E! Entertainment (StarHub Channel 441) will

be broadcasting its

Live from the Red Carpet

– The 2015 Academy Awards

coverage on 23

February at 6.30am, but if you’re still looking

for your Oscars fashion fix, tune into

Fashion

Police: The 2015 Academy Awards

on 24

February at 9.30pm for some cutting commentary on the red

carpet’s winning wardrobe choices and losing looks.

Jupiter Ascending

In a future universe where humans are

near the bottom of the evolutionary

ladder, a woman named Jupiter (Mila

Kunis) is targeted for assassination by

the Queen of the Universe because

her very existence threatens to end the

Queen’s reign. This sci-fi adventure also

stars Channing Tatum as a genetically

engineered ex-military warrior sent

to track down Jupiter, and Eddie

Redmayne as alien royalty. Opens 5

February at Golden Village cinemas.
