Mary Walker, British
I’ve been in Singapore for over two and
a half years, and have enjoyed every
day; I’m particularly loving the sun, if not
the rain. I was surprised when we first
went to look round the British Club how
beautiful the setting was, and howmuch
fun everyone has. It’s so well thought
out, with plenty of fun activities for the
children and various places to eat, which
is brilliant for our guests with children.
TheMountbattenRoom is our favourite
place and a fantastic restaurant. We
go there most weeks, especially for
Sunday lunch, which is more formal
and super for entertaining visitors. I
love the monthly gala wine dinners, and
the annual “Best of British Week” is my
favourite fun week in Singapore.
Both my husband and I use the gym
and the swimming pools, which have
recently been renovated to a very high
standard and include children’s areas.

My New Zealander husband, Kent,
and I have lived in Singapore with our
children Ruarc (14), Sam (10), Noah (6)
and Martha (4) for four years.
Most of all, what makes the British
Club so special are the staff. They are
very friendly and will go the extra mile to
do whatever is needed to help you have
an enjoyable time. We experienced this
service from our first look, and that’s
what convinced us to join. We feel very
privileged to have membership to such
a lovely club.

As we live in a house and don’t have
condo facilities, we wanted somewhere
we could “escape” to – somewhere
with sports facilities and a good pool.
Friends recommended the
Hollandse Club and we liked it
instantly. We loved the relaxed,
“on holiday” atmosphere:
lush, green surroundings;
welcoming, smiley staf f;
free-range children running
around, and lots of social
events throughout the year.
We practically live at the
club! The children have
swimming lessons there (the
Aqua Ducks team is fantastic),
Sam plays water polo, and
both he and Noah swim for the
squad. They also play football
on the multi-purpose court
with their friends. I used to
take Martha to the playgroup
when she was a baby (she
loves the waterslide and the playground
now), and Kent and I often go to the club
for a quiet dinner. Kent uses the gym and
I play tennis – the courts and facilities
are very good. I sometimes sit and work
at The Terrace, where I’m provided with
a steady flow of tea!
The accommodation is ideal; the
rooms are reasonably priced and our
visitors are able to use all the facilities.
The location is convenient as we live
nearby: close to our guests but not in
each other’s pockets.
It’s a relaxed and family-friendly
atmosphere. We have made great
friends of many different nationalities.
It’s perfect if you have a family, are into
sport or are just looking to meet some
great people and get away from it all.
There’s something for everyone.
