SINGAPORE LYRIC OPERA:
THE MERRY WIDOW

Written by populist Austro-
Hungarian composer, Franz Lehár,
and first performed in 1905,
this operetta was Lehár’s most
celebrated. The plot tells of a widow
who inherits millions from the death
of her husband, and her country’s
endearing, albeit comical, quest
to find her a suitable spouse in a
bid to keep her fortune within the
country.
