EtonHouse International School
Destination:
Hay Dairies Farm and Bollywood Veggies
Duration:
One day
We get the chance to go on many excursions at
EtonHouse. One of my favourite trips was where we learnt
about food before it is consumed. The first stop was Hay
Dairies farm where we saw goats milked. This was new
to me, and very interesting. I was surprised to see how
well they followed the man who was milking them. We
tried some chocolate-flavoured goat’s milk.
Next stop was Bollywood Veggies where our tour
guides showed us around the farm. I saw a ‘Reuse,
Reduce, Recycle: Do Not Waste’ sign which was
interesting because our previous learning unit had
been about saving the earth and I instantly made a
connection. We saw all sorts of plants: pineapple, mango,
lemongrass, citronella and chilli. I got to plant my own
herb, and I choose lemongrass because I love the smell
of it. I also found out that it keeps away mosquitoes. That
was my favourite part of the trip. It was an experience of
a lifetime and I can’t wait to visit again.

Culture Festival
Student:
Robert Frank, Grade 9
School:
German European School of Singapore
Destination:
New Delhi
Duration:
Three days
The Culture Festival of German Schools Abroad is
celebrated every two years, and the German School New
Delhi (DSND) hosted this year’s event. Students from all over
Southeast Asia were invited to experience Indian culture, form
friendships and exchange ideas. Other German international
schools attended from Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and
Bangkok.
The 16 students attending from Singapore chose a
workshop from activities including Bollywood dance,
traditional music, Indian rangoli design, percussion and
theatre. We also went on city tours by bike or foot, and visited
historic monuments, parks, and places related to the life of
Mahatma Gandhi. The highlight of the festival for me was the
Indian ‘festival of colours’, Holi. Every day was exciting and
eventful. On the final day, we were honoured to receive the
Indian Olympic flag, given to us because GESS will be hosting
the culture festival in 2016.
