This got me thinking about the type
of clothing that would be a right fit. And
then, on a holiday to India, I chanced
upon the Pudu store in Bangalore and
saw all this linen clothing in bold colours
– traditionally, in India, you tend to see
only neutral tones – and it was truly love
at first sight.
I walked out of that store with a lot of
linen clothing for my husband; it’s such
a sophisticated, hardy fabric and it looks
equally beautiful on men and women.
And with that, I founded my company,
Hot Men in Linen, and brought in Pudu
as a franchise to Southeast Asia.
So, what is Pudu all about?
Pudu offers high-quality, 100-percent
cotton and linen clothing for men and
boys. The focus is on great workmanship
and contemporary styling, while the
branding is also very minimalist and
understated – something that can be
difficult to find in Asia. The clothing has
a real “island vibe”, and evokes laid-back
sophistication, which I think is perfect for
Singapore. Even the shirt names evoke
travel, having been named after exotic
destinations such as Amalfi.
It’s great that you decided to
bring in clothing for boys too.
Yes, I felt there was a lack of good kids’
wear here – I have a son of my own, so
I could relate! If I looked for something
stylish for him, I would either have to shell
out a couple of hundred dollars, or I’d
have to get something that wasn’t really
distinctive. Also, you often see mothers
and daughters wearingmatching pieces,
but I don’t think you often get really
beautiful clothing sets for dads and sons.
I first showcased the products at many
of the clubs, including The American
Club, and I found the biggest attraction for
mums was to be able to pick upmatching
garments for the holidays for the men in
the family! Now we’ve finally opened up
our own store in the newOrchardGateway
mall tomake Pudu evenmore accessible.
What is the price range?
All of the shirts and bottoms for boys
are $49 each, while the men’s range
starts at $59 and goes up to $149. Most
of the clothes are in the $79 to $110
range, which I feel is very affordable in
view of the gorgeous designs and the
comfortable, long-lasting fabrics.
