Fond Memories

After returning toZurich,

Switzerland, it was a

trip down nostalgia

lane to be able to get

the April 2014 issue

of

Expat Living

. It was

great to lose myself

in the beautiful Singapore home

decorations, try out the delicious recipes and feel “homesick”

for the various featured venues.

I especially liked the article, “A Slice of Switzerland”, as it

gave me some information about Lucerne and Basel that I

did not know. You always seem to discover more about your

country from tourists! I will have to sign up for one of those

walking tours of Lucerne myself.

Thank you too for all the tips on how to age well, as we

all know it is the life in your years that counts, more than the

years in your life. I am still doing the Luk Ting Kuen exercises

which I learnt in Singapore from a 78-year-old lady, who looks

nowhere near her age.

I am still astounded that so much sound advice, information

and so many enticing photos can be packed into a magazine

costing only S$6.50. Compared to many other magazines,

this is a steal! Keep up the good work and I hope that I can

persuade someone else travelling to Singapore to bring me

back another copy of your jam-packed issues. Meanwhile, I

am glad that I can still keep in touch with the Singapore beat

via your website.

Best regards!

Going Crackers?

As you can see from

the attached picture, I

found a packet of rice

crackers in Watson

a while ago that is

boldly branded “Zero

Calories”. Last week,

my gym announced

that it was voted

the best gym in

Singapore, and yet

there are sewage flies on the ceilings of the

ladies’ showers and it has not been renovated

since I joined there 15 years ago.

I was wondering – does Singapore have

any regulations for honest advertising,

environmental grading, quality assurance

logos or similar, to give consumers a guide

to what they are really buying? An article that

sets out what standards we can rely on here

under Singapore law might be interesting for

your readers.

Ed: Good idea! We’re protected under

the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading)

Act, and looked after by the non-profit

Consumers Association of Singapore, so

that’s a promising start.

Bon Voyage!

It is with a sad note that I must end my

subscription of

Expat Living

, as our family will

be repatriated back to our home country. Thank

you for sharing your magazine these three years

with us. It has brought us all the information we

need to enjoy Singapore. Here’s to continued

success with your magazine!
