There’s a bit of uncertainty about which medications can be taken during
pregnancy, prenatally and while breastfeeding – from over-the-counter and
prescription drugs to dietary supplements and herbal remedies. One reason
is that pregnant women aren’t often included in studies to determine the safety
of drugs before they hit the market. Surprisingly, less than 10 percent of
FDA-approved drugs have been sufficiently tested to determine their risks
for birth defects, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) in the US.
To help women make more informed decisions, the CDC recently launched
Treating for Two: Safer Medication Use in Pregnancy
, aimed at improving
the health of pregnant women and preventing birth defects. In partnership with
the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other organisations, the CDC
is working to expand and streamline research efforts, and compare treatments
for common conditions like asthma and depression in order to identify the
safest options and available alternatives. For research studies, articles and

Golf lovers can enjoy taking in a tournament between
longstanding rivals, Singapore and Malaysia, as they battle
it out in the second annual Prudential Causeway Trophy,
a three-day tournament in which four ball, foursome and
single games are played on the Laguna National Golf
and Country Club course. This year’s addition of the
Prudential Junior Causeway Trophy will also give some of
the countries’ most promising junior golfers the chance to
play in a professional-standard competition. Entry is free
