When did you get married?

December 2013.

Who designed your invitations?

We found a template design on Etsy and

had them printed in Singapore.

Why did you pick this

destination?

We wanted to have our wedding in

Asia so our friends and family from the

UK could make a holiday of it. Phuket

worked for various reasons, including

the ease of travel and its stunning

private villas.

Did you use a wedding planner?

Yes – most of the private villas we

considered required you to have a

recognised planner.

What was the biggest obstacle?

Organising everything in a different

country was a challenge. We had to fly

over a few times to find venues and do

food-tasting, but this was a good excuse

for a holiday!

What was the biggest expense?

Hiring the wedding villa for three days,

closely followed by food and booze.

What did you serve guests?

Fusion canapés, Thai food and full-moon-

style “buckets” when the party started!

Did you have any favours?

No.

Any complications with the

marriage formalities?

The legal ceremony took place in

Singapore a week before, and we had

a non-religious celebrant to do the

blessing in Phuket.

Top tips for brides-to-be?

Find a good wedding planner, and

make sure you ask for testimonials and

photographs of previous weddings.

Secondly, if you are getting married

outside, make sure you have a backup

option for wet weather – don’t just cross

your fingers and hope for sun!
