New choices and things to do, buy and try UPFRONT
Winner of the New York Theatre Critics Circle Award, Tribes is a
comic drama about belonging, new beginnings and the complexities
of communication. Join Billy on his journey to find love, override
deafness and finally be heard by his eccentric family. Sign language

EMPOWERING WOMEN
Expect glamour, gastronomy and goodwill, at the 15th anniversary Say No to the
Oppression of Women (SNOW) Gala. The event raises much-needed funds for the
Singapore Committee for UN Women; $400,000 raised in 2014 was committed to
programmes addressing violence against women, promoting economic empowerment
and providing leadership training. 9 October.

officials from 36 sports will
descend on Singapore for the 28th
Southeast Asian Games this June.
And now’s the time to get tickets
for a smorgasbord of spectator
experiences. As well as traditional
sports, there is competition in
wushu, petanque, dragon boating
and sepak takraw (sometimes
described as “kick volleyball”). 5

RACING FUN
Speed demons, listen
up! The Karting Arena,
Singapore’s first permanent
electric karting track, opened
last month. The $1.3 million
circuit is 545 metres long
with sweeping corners, a
hairpin and a chicane for
good measure. Not only
are the new electric karts
environmentally friendly,
they outperform traditional
gasoline models. Prices
start from $25 per person
for a 10-minute experience.
