9:30am to 3pm
Why are the early years of
education so important?
They lay the foundation for life. There
is plenty of evidence and research
to reinforce this statement. In the
past, preschool education was akin
to providing child-minding services.
However, as we have moved towards a
knowledge-oriented society, there has
been an increase in awareness about
child development.
In the first three years of life, the
brain has an astounding ability to
make connections between synapses.
The quality of children’s interactions
in the early years makes a significant
impact on learning and success in
later years.

pedagogists and teachers continually
work towards introducing innovative
practice, and setting standards in early
childhood to inspire and challenge
young children and equip them with
skills for the 21st century. This sets them
up to develop into confident, curious,
competent, responsible and sociable
global citizens.
The team at
EtonHouse
answered our questions about the
importance of early years education, and a new opening in Sentosa
that coincides with the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
EtonHouse is expanding; tell us
about the new school on Sentosa.
In August, EtonHouse will open the
first heritage preschool in Singapore, a
32,000-square-foot campus that includes
a three-storey conservation house. The
school will feature a special heritage centre
offering children and families a glimpse of
Singapore in its early years, and a unique
perspective on history, while initiating new
discoveries and learningopportunities. The
heritage centre will evolve into an exhibit
that will include children’s interpretations
of Singapore’s history, a celebration of 50
years through the eyes of young children.
What else will EtonHouse Sentosa
offer?
The established EtonHouse inquiry-
based, bilingual programme will be open
to children from 18 months to six years.
Set in tranquil grounds, this campus
provides an integrated and dynamic
learning environment. Features include
a large multi-purpose hall, an indoor play
area, a library, a recycling studio as well
as outdoor spaces to encourage the
exploration of the natural world.
