Lighten Up
Any home stylist or interior designer worth their salt will tell you that
lighting plays a key role in creating the right atmosphere. Here are some
lighting ideas from specialist
Lightcraft
to give your home that extra lift.
Overview:
Lighting can dramatically affect
the atmosphere and appearance
of space in a home, so it’s good
to know that you can alter it with
the flick of a switch. There’s
no quicker way to kill a mood
than with harsh lighting – think
fluorescent bulbs, strip lighting
and un-dimmable bulbs. Many of
us have to work with what we are
given when we rent a property,
but there are some simple ways
to bring a great vibe to a room.
Tips:
• Singapore has a lot of sunlight,
so make the most out of it. Pull
back heavy curtains with ties,
and make sure the windows
are regularly cleaned.
• Fit dimmer switches (ask the
landlord’s permission first
if you rent). This is a simple
way to take the glare out of
the harshest of lights; the
switches can even be fitted
into bathroom lighting.
• Use table lamps and standing
lamps; don’t just rely on one
single light source in the
centre of the room. This gives
you flexibility in how you want
to light your room, day and
night.
• Choose a statement light
fitting. A striking chandelier or
side lamp can create layering
in a room just as well as
wallpaper or an eye-catching
piece of art. Pictured are
some of Lightcraft’s striking
Krinklamp products to give
you some extra ideas.
