MOVING CHECKLIST
WHETHER YOU’RE MOVING IN OR MOVING
OUT, HERE ARE SOME QUICK TIPS ON
WHAT TO DO.
When moving in, examine the
property thoroughly against the
Tenancy Agreement and the
Inventory of Contents. It’s easy to
take photographs of the property
if you think it’s not in the condition
stated, and you should highlight any
defects immediately and request
repairs. Tenants are usually only
responsible for paying for repairs
that do not exceed $200. Major
repairs and maintenance should be
the landlord’s responsibility, as long
as the damage or breakdown is not
due to the tenant’s carelessness;
but be sure to read the fine print
carefully.
Look out for the following:
• Broken electrical appliances
(including air-conditioning units)
• Cracks, holes, scratches or defects in
the paint finish
• Damaged flooring, windows and
doors
• Broken electrical lights and switches
• Damaged furniture
• Cracked or broken bathroom fixtures
and tiling
When moving out, revisit the inventory
and ensure that everything is in the
same condition as when you moved
in. Common wear and tear is tolerable;
however, the tenant must reimburse
the landlord for any damaged or lost
items. The property must be in a clean
and habitable condition and all air-
conditioning units serviced.
Landlords have the right to deduct any
expenses out of your deposit if they find

defects in the property. You may
prefer to fix these yourself, as it
can be cheaper than what may
be deducted from your deposit.
