Well, it’s been a bit like Animal Planet at our house this month, with

the highlight beingwhen I had to fish the foster kitten out of the toilet!

We got home latish one day to find daddy dog, Riley, had slipped a disc or

something; he couldn’t stand on his back legs and kept yelping. So we found

a 24-hour vet and rushed him down there, soothing him as we went.

It was a bit like taking the car to the mechanic: we put him on the ground to

show the incredible pain and discomfort he was facing, and he trotted off down

the corridor as happy as Larry! A shot of anti-inflammatory and a hefty bill later,

we were on our way home. The next day the same thing happened; another vet,

no solution, but he was completely better by day three.

While being at home to mother him on the second day, I heard the kitten (that

we are fostering until it’s big enough to be adopted) meowing very loudly. So

I thought I’d better feed him, as the longer you leave him the louder he gets.

I walked into the bathroom where he spends most of the time (because

otherwise we lose track of him or someone stands on him). There he was,

looking up at me from the toilet bowl, with his mouth wide open. His face was just

above the water level. I scooped him up and wrapped him in the hand-towel and

held him to me. It’s the quietest he has ever been and his heart was pounding.

Anyway, he survived and is flourishing – we won’t tell the SPCA, will we?

Two days later, puppy Luke was completely listless and wouldn’t eat (and he’s

normally a little pig). We just gave him love and attention, and he recovered

after a few days!

Dogs are very “in vogue” in our office at the moment. You’ll hear discussions

about toilet training, behavioural issues and periods –

and then you realise they aren’t talking about children.

The other thing in vogue is hair and beauty; we’ve

been talking a lot about which mascara, foundation

and hair product to use – in this climate, especially. So

we’ve decided to splash out to create our own beauty

and fashion supplement, adding all kinds of extras to

our regular features, giving it a redesign, and making

it much cooler. Susannah and the team have done a

fabulous job creating

LIV

, and we really hope you enjoy

it! Do let us know what you think about it on Facebook.

Happy reading!
