We all have “what ifs” in our lives, but it’s what you do with them
that I think is the important bit.
I was thinking the other day, “What if we had bought property in Singapore
when we moved here over 16 years ago, instead of keeping our UK house?”
Remembering how cheap Sentosa land was when it first came on the market
still makes my eyes water.
In my family’s history there are plenty of “what if” examples. At the turn of the
20th century, my grandfather had a successful company in Liverpool that sold
horse-related products and services, and also had a huge portion of the gas
lamp business. To use a modern word, he and his family had it “sussed”! But
they also thought that cars were just a passing phase and that electricity wouldn’t
be used on a large scale. They didn’t adapt and eventually lost everything. My
grandmother came from an “old money” family but her father died when she
was quite young and her mother married a cousin who spent all the money.
We don’t have a crystal ball so we aren’t always going to make the “right
choices”, if we can call them that. But holding on to the annoyance around
what could have been is surely never right. I know my grandparents never really
got over what happened, and it affected the following
generations in different ways.
November is an odd month because it’s almost
the end of the year and there are all the “what ifs”
surrounding what we haven’t got around to doing yet –
and it can make us annoyed.
So let’s all acknowledge any regrets we might have
and then let them go. And then go online and order one
of our fab free calendars, and start planning next year
happily. With
LIV
bringing you all you need to look great,
at least that side of your life will be sorted!
