STYLING WITH A EDGE

EDITOR’S PICKS

For indie clothing that’s not in the malls, we head to Inverted Edge

to check out its ever-growing roster of up-and-coming contemporary

Asia-Pacific designers such as Lion Earl, Fleamadonna, Day Dream

Nation and Karen Walker. But did you also know Inverted Edge

offers professional styling? The team stands by the fact that a good

styling session doesn’t just boost your confidence, but can also make

you a smarter shopper, giving you tips you can use again and again.

We chat to

Debra Langley

,

CEO of Inverted Edge

, about styling

up a storm in Singapore.

Who are your typical customers

for styling advice?

Often women come to us because they

want to adjust their style after having a

baby, or they have a new job, or they’re

starting a business, or just because

they’re new to Singapore and don’t

know what to wear in this climate. This

is where we love to step in, because

after years of working with different

silhouettes and personalities, we can

see options that aren’t necessarily

obvious to the customer.

What advice do you offer women

who are rather self-conscious

about their bodies?

Every woman, no matter how tall or

small or thin or curvy, has a part of her

body that she obsesses over. Rather

than trying to hide it with looser or

tighter clothing, or a combination

that doesn’t flatter, we’ve learned

that there are styling solutions

for everyone. Best of all for us is

the boost of confidence that our

customers get from learning how

simple styling tweaks can totally

change how they look and feel.

Where do you look for

inspiration?

For trends, we follow various style-

influencers and bloggers, especially

those who encourage women to

develop and own their own personal

style – and that means dressing in

a way that reflects their personality,

not buying a brand simply because

of the name. We try to help through

introducing interesting new brands

like those we carry, but ultimately

our goal is to arm our customers

with the personal style information

they need to make well-informed

purchasing decisions every time

they shop – not just when they shop

with us.”
