Editor’s Letter

REBECCABISSET

Editor-in-Chief

Having just eaten the last of my daughters’ Easter eggs, I’m now

racked with guilt – as well as on a mission to diet!

This is always difficult for me as I have the willpower of a flea – in other words,

none. Crisps and savoury snacks aren’t a problem, but chocolate and biscuits

are, especially if they are in view. It intrigues me how my children can leave

them sitting in the fridge – maybe because they never open it?

Those of you who have lived here for a while will understand the dilemma of

home help and the issue of your children never having to do much in the kitchen.

We have done a couple of six-month stints without home help, and the girls

have had to do their bit. That is, until I cave in; the lizard droppings and piles of

ironing usually become overwhelming. I’ve drawn up housework schedules to

get them involved, but they haven’t been glanced at after day two.

But have faith: my daughter who is now having to clean and cook in her own

place seems to be managing; she doesn’t look skeletal or sick, so she must be

eating well enough – and she didn’t smell too badly when she arrived home for

a quick Easter break, so she’s obviously got the laundry “sorted”!

My helper is on holiday for a couple of weeks at the moment and I’m digging

deep to find my domestic streak. I am at least remembering to empty the bins

regularly – how quickly they “start to hum” in this heat; thank goodness the

rubbish is collected every day.

I’m sure those of you heading to your home countries for a break over the

next couple of months will find your own domestic groove soon enough. Happy

holidays!

If you’re staying here or travelling locally,

Expat Living

will keep you up to

date and informed – as always.

P.S.

We just won Website of the Year in

the annual Media Publishers Association of

Singapore Awards – how brilliant is that? And

EX

magazine, our very cool publication for

men who work in the region, was runner-up

to

Esquire

for Men’s Media of the Year. Great

results for the team – onwards and upwards!
